I wouldn't pay to change the way any of my characters look. I liked the way they looked when I created them, and I still like the way they look now.

Anyone who spends real world money to play with cartoon characters really needs to see a doctor.
To answer the original question, I've changed characters, but only once. I made sure the look I chose was the one I wanted, so I didn't waste makeover credits. On two characters this meant taking a few days to decide.
For most of the changes I made, the combinations are impossible at character creation screen (Tyrian elementalist with Elonian hair style, for insance).

I understand that many people will not pay $10 for changes. A few will that's a personal choice.
I know of several people that are hardcore into RPGs. One of my friends always has the same character name, profession, and appearance every time he plays a new game. He has it almost down to a science. At first, I didn't understand it, but I started doing it too once I started to see my characters more than just "toons" which I use to grind loot. I think that wanting to believe that your characters are doing quests for more than XP shouldn't be a fault.
In any case, one of my characters is Kasumi, and she is obviously Asian. However, in Prophecies, they didn't have any Asian character designs so I had to make do with what I had. After playing her for well over a year later, Factions came out and I was sort of bitter about it. Yeah, I could "reroll", but it's sort of lame to delete a character that you've already bought 15K armor and maxed out a bunch of titles. In this case, I think that it would be understandable to spend $10 to basically fix her character design, especially if that was my primary character.

My makeover button:
I do waste time at the barber, coming up with combos that would be available to me if I believed in paying real money for this service though.
What can I say, I am just a little girl in my heart!

I have over 1000hrs of playtime and FoW armor on my female necro (see avatar), but i really don't like here hair anymore. So I took a look at the different hair styles at the stylist and liked almost none. And the ones I liked weren't worth the $2.
So I'm thinking of buying an extreme makover credit. $10 is a lot for one credit, but male necros and male necro FoW armor looks so much better.

I'm tempted to change my Mesmer...
but since i really don't play her anymore it's not worth it for me.
I spent a lot of time re-making characters, getting names and appearences just right, purposely starting characters in the original Guild Wars rather than Factions just because I like the faces better.
I DO like the idea you can now use ANY combination from ANY campaign.
I wish you could start a NEW character for free with those options... although Dwayna knows I don't need anymore characters! (and I'd spend $10 for a new slot anyway, so that's stupid).

Zero. I'd almost consider it for my oldest monk (I've hated her hair for years and almost never play her anymore), but I put my money where my mouth was (or, my typing in this case) and spent $40 on two new Prophecies accounts instead. Besides eight new characters, it's more storage, zkeys, gifts of the huntsman in pre, etc.

I'm glad the makeover option was introduced. The first thing I did was to make all three of my main characters 3 clicks taller.
Gratz to those of you who made your characters perfect the first time. Some of us didn’t and now we can fix it. I get enough hassle from people IRL that think gaming is a waste of time.

How much is Anet paying you to be their little posterboy for their new pricegouged 'services'?

I find it ridiculous how they charge money for it. Since it's a customer service that requires no effort or resources on their part, so no.

I have a couple characters I might like to change slightly, but I'm not going to spend real money to do it.

That's not really "saving" money, but hey, whatever you need to tell yourself to justify spending on makeover credits.

There's nothing to 'justify'.
People work for their money, they choose what they want to spend it on and they decide what they spend it on is worth it or not.
I can't believe all this bitching going on just over £10.

Yay, my new favorite poster!
Anyways, yeah I cashed in.
In the RPG sense, I'm not as immersed into GW as much as I thought I'd be. In a much more story focused RPG like say Neverwinter Nights, I'm gonna make a dude.
But in a game like this, where I'm not able to show myself through my characters choices and decisions, I find it much more fun to play as a laday. Plus fem. Wars and Sins look freakin' amazing. So I changed my courageous male fighter into a brave woman warrior.
That said, if I was still a man I'd pick *THIS* combo, largely for being the coolest celebrity look-a-like ever:
Hint: "This is MADNESS!"
PS: Holy cow Mordakai, welcome back! Where you been, dude?

People who claim this is a trivial sum are missing the point that not everyone is leeching off of mommy and daddy, and that's ONE INSTANCE of paying that much. I have ten characters. If I want to change all their names and looks at any given time it'll be well over $200 spent to do so. Just to change my characters around without losing their armor and achievements. I know many players with double that number of characters, with multiple accounts they actually play on. That adds up quick.
I'm glad I'm happy with the way most of my characters look but the point is some aren't, and forcing them to know there's a way to change it, but they'd have to spend half a week's paycheck(for some) during the worst financial crisis in recent history in order to do it, it's ridiculous.
"Just $10." 10+ times. "Just $100" sounds a lot different to me, struggling to get through life during these times. Not everyone has a steady income and is able to drop a Benji just to make their characters look better. And before you say "if you're struggling through life, why are you playing a game?" bear in mind that some people can't get jobs at the moment, some people are in school or college and don't have the time. some people have possible medical conditions that essentially siphon money out of their bank accounts and prevent them from acquiring gainful employment. It happens. GW appeals to those people because they don't HAVE to pay monthly.
BTW: If they cut the prices in half it'll be just about guaranteed that they'll get more than double the number of transactions, just due to psychology. If they show us that they're listening to the OBVIOUS MAJORITY saying this is too much, it'll make us happier about the whole deal and I'm sure many will stop their boycott and actually partake. Everyone wins there. Anet makes more money, the individual player gets what they want.
